I Wonder Why Greeks Built Temples and Other Questions About Ancient Greece

By Fiona Macdonald

I Wonder Why Greeks Built Temples and Other Questions About Ancient Greece is an entertaining book with many interesting facts about the ancient Greeks.  A number of questions are answered with brief but complete answers and helpful, entertaining illustrations.  Each page has a question about the ancient Greeks, a one-paragraph answer, illustrations and other bulleted facts.  The author answers questions about their lifestyles, gods, travel, clothing, knowledge, and entertainment.  A table of contents lists all the questions that are answered in the book, and the index allows for readers to search for answers by topic.  The information in the book seems to be adequate for giving a brief overview about the ancient Greeks, but does not cite sources or references.

The layout of the book is logical and easy to follow.  It begins by explaining who the ancient Greeks were and continues to give details about their lives.  The book concludes with the Roman invasion of Greece.  The book is attractive and inviting.  The illustrations include serious images as well as comical ones.  The flexible question and answer format makes this a good book for reading in pieces or all at once.  The writing is clear, and encourages readers to think about the facts presented to them.  This book could be enjoyed by readers of all ages, and gives a good overview of ancient Greece.
